Wow. I am really, surprisingly, impressed. And let me say - it is nothing like the Will Smith movie. Soooooo much better than the movie.
This book is essentially one extended story-telling session of robopsychologist Dr. Susan Calvin. She tells about the most notable robots in robot-history (most of them robots-gone-wrong), and throughout the book shows the very difficult question of having robots at all. It's truly fascinating, the world that the author creates.
I don't know if I can exactly say what made this book so great. The writing was pretty great, and I was very wrapped up in each story. Sitting on the edge of the seat, biting my nails, etc. I found myself discussing the various issues in the book with my boyfriend for a good long time. And while most of the book focuses on why robots would be so very bad for humans and the very likely potential for disaster... the end kind of makes a case for just surrending to super-robots completely. Which was kind of bound to happen, as Dr. Calvin says herself that she prefers robots to humans.
This was a fantastic book, and I'm looking forward to reading more of Isaac Asimov.
